SAAM Terminals’ port terminals and logistics centre have earned International Renewable Energy (I-REC) certificates.

SAAM Terminals cuts CO2 emissions by 10,500 tonnes in 2023

The San Antonio, Antofagasta, San Vicente, and Corral terminals, as well as the Puerto Montt logistics center, lowered their carbon footprint by 41 per cent compared to 2021 by using entirely on renewable energy sources for power.

As a result, they saved 10,522 tonnes of CO2, which is equivalent to the emissions of 2,290 standard autos.

SAAM Terminals’ VP of Sustainability and Communications, Cristina Schmidt, said: “An important part of our sustainability strategy is to move forward towards more eco-friendly operations.”

The International REC Standard issues I-REC certificates, which are global standards for REC certificate monitoring, issuance, and trade.

In June, SAAM Terminals invested $500,000 in a simulator for CM Labs Simulators to train new crane operators while enhancing current ones with improvement exercises.
